I feel so bad about taking so much time letting you know how much I appreciate
your organization for out trip. I can blame work and other things in ones life....
but that is not good enough.
So thanks so much for the trip of a life time. I enjoyed Bolivia much more this
time. I knew what to expect and I really enjoy that type of lonely country.
Next time we come we will have to revisit places like the Salar and that eco
village near Sajama.
I still get a headache when I think of pisco sours !!!!!... but apart from that
I have only fond memories of our laughter , your great organization, your patience
when we asked questions all the time or had to stop for photos, and always the
great food.
Really, you and your organization, are a credit to Bolivia. I wish you and
your family all the best in the future .[ and thank Sonja , again, for that
fabulous meal ] .
I do know I'll be returning... but before that, I hope to see you come and visit
us so that we have the pleasure of looking after you.
When I get my act together I'll try and send some of my better photos.
But for now I include one of you - for your family.
Go well
And until we meet again -salut
Regards John

Good Morning Andean Summits,
I would like to thank you for the services provided on our Condoriri and Acotango trips. All guys on the trip were simply briliant as well as the "office" team.
This link is for Osvaldo (the satelite maps as discussed) http://www.elmundo.es/callejero/
If the situation allows we will return to South America and use your services
again.
But for sure we will recommend you to all who will be interested in mountain
trips in Bolivia.
All the best

Hello,
I did a trip with your company in 2006 and was very pleased with the service.
My friend Chris and I did a trip to Condoriri. We had basecamp services with
Jorge as our cook and things worked very well.
I am organizing a group from the Colorado Mountain Club in the United States
to come to Bolivia next summer and would like to get some information on options
and pricing. ...
Thank you.

Hola Javier
It is a long time since we were last in touch but I hope you remember us - Mike, Kelley, Charlotte, Josh and Tim.
In 2005 we enjoyed our treks with Ivan to Apolobamba and with you to the far south west and we have decided to visit Bolivia again in 2008. Never before have we returned to a country for a second time - but we thought Bolivia was wonderful and there are are many places we did not have time to see in 2005.
...
All the best

Hola Javier y gracias!
...
So, like being in Pakistan on 9/11, we will always remember where we were during
Rugby World Cup 2007 - in Bolivia!! Thanks again for an awesome trip. As I said
in La Paz, its amazing what you can get on the Internet these days - a heart
transplant, or even the best guide in Bolivia. The day we found Andean Summits
on the www was a very lucky day for us.
I like what you wrote in that book on Bolivia, after the first trip - that we
started as clients and ended as friends. In fact we liked travelling with you
so much that we came back again! We really appreciate your friendship as well
as your love and knowledge of your country, mountain skills, tolerance of bad
gringo tent-pitching, etc.
We saw a very different part of Bolivia this time, which is very beautiful and
fascinating, and I think for a bunch of old crocks we did OK! A highlight for
me was when you said to us on Licancabur "I'm proud of you guys!"
Of course it is not very high, and non-technical, but its higher than Kilimanjaro,
so we did OK. The summit of Guallatiri would have been nice, but thats life,
and we are used to successful failures by now! It was great to end the trip
back at our old enemy Sajama.
I'm reading "The Ice Maiden" with great interest. I see Reinhard and
his team camped on the summit of Licancabur for almost a week! In retrospect
I wish I had paid more attention to the Inca ruins. It is impressive that there
is so little litter on the mountain.
...
We are working on the pics and will send a CD in a few days.
Saludos! Y muchissimas gracias
Joe

Dear Jose
We just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for a truly special and memorable trip in Bolivia. It really was a trip of a lifetime and way exceeded our expectations. Your hospitality, thoughtfulness, knowledge and attention to detail certainly contributed to making it one of the best trips we have ever had and will certainly never forget.
Life is still a little chaotic at this end having just got home and being back at work, but we will definitely send you our photos on CD. Could you send us an address to send it to, please.
And we hope to see you again to trek or sea kayak or attempt a peak.....
Please let us know how your Everest plans go. And if you ever find yourself near Devon, you always have a place to stay.
Thank you soooooooooooooooooo much,
Laurie and John

Hola Jose y Javier,
Estimados senores, que tal?
I just want to let Javier know that yesterday I sent an enveloppe to his home
address in La Paz. The letter contains the three articles I wrote about mountaineering
in Bolivia for Dutch magazine in the summer of 2006. By the way, Javier is on
the cover of the magazine Limits, a hard core mountaineering revista. In all
three stories I mention Andean Summits as an excellent tour company in Bolivia.
In December I'll be in Patagonia. I hope to be able to visit your country anytime
soon.
Hope you're doing fine,

We hereby send you an e-mail from Santa Cruz, Bolivia. By suprise, we visited you at the Andean Summit´s office, at the end of august 2006. We were looking for information about doing an independent trek in the Quimsa Cruz-region and after a long day of searching, we finally ended up with you. You were willing to help us finding public transport and provide detailed information about the three-day trek. We are very grateful for all your help and hereby wish to express our thanks.

Javier,

Dear Javier,
the trip definitely met our expectations -- all the planned objectives have
been accomplished, and weather cooperated up to the very last moment. I enjoyed
interacting with Jesus very much, both as a person and as a climbing partner.
As a guide, I think he is highly professional and I will not hesitate recommending
his services to anyone. Both car and mule transport were organized perfectly,--
with an added suprise of muleteers setting up and breaking down the tents (as
I probably mentioned, this kind of luxury is unheard of where I come from).
One suggestion/comment that I would like to make is with the regard to the climbing equipment supplied -- we have been using two ropes, one of Jesus' own, 60m rope, and the other provided by the agency, a 40m one. I understand that for most common objectives (like a "normal route" up a mountain) a 40m rope is sufficient, however, given more technical nature of our ultimate goal, I was hoping that a second 60m rope would be provided, as two 60m ropes is still probably the best option for a mixed route requiring belays and protection. Again, given Jesus' qualification, that inconvenience has been brilliantly circumvented (once he had to construct a belay in a rather tight spot), so I am just mentioning this not as a complaint but as a suggestion for the future.
Other than that,
I can only offer my thanks to your agency you for the wonderful experience I had, and a chance to learn from someone knowing more and climbing better than me,
Karen

Hola caballeros,
Javier and José, I just wanna say that an article of mine about climbing
Sajama has recently been published in the Dutch mountaineering magazine 'Limits'.
Javier, a picture of you is twice in the magazine; one is even on the cover!…
…More importantly, your company is mentioned as being an excellent choice
to book your tours with (together with your internet site). About 20,000 issues
have been printed of the magazine. I hope you'll get a few more Dutch clients
in future due to this article. By the way, in the next issue of Limits, Andean
Summits will also be mentioned (in my article on Illimani).
I hope you're fine and that your business in thriving.

Hallo Jose, thanks for another great trip.
Andean Summits, with the personal guidance of partner Jose Camarlinghi, were terrific. Jose is a great companion giving us additional bonuses such as a catamaran canoe trip around Sun Island on Titicaca. His team including driver Ramiro, and on trek kitchen/camp team Garry who produced first class meals and Raymundo who gave fantastic service. They were great cheerful company, efficient and punctual. In my view as good as and I think better service than anything found in Asia. The porter team from Pinaya led by Juanito were also great fun and were generally superb.

Everything you said about Apolobamba was true, even along the "standard
route"! It really is one of the most extraordinary places I have ever
seen, and was even better than I had expected. We had a Kallawaya as a guide,
caught fish from a stream for supper, saw condors over high
passes, stumbled over Inca paving, witnessed bull fighting in Pelechuco and
passed through some of the finest mountain scenery I have ever seen.
More unexpectedly, the terraced valley between Amarete and Charazani is unbelievable
- much more extensive than any of the Inca terraces I have
seen in Peru.
Warmest regards
Martin

I would ask that you also pass my best wishes on to Jose, Pedro and all of the boys who were such a help to me on my recent holiday. As you might guess 'Himalayan Kingdoms' asked us how things went, and I am happy to tell you that it was no problem giving you a good report.
With my best wishes and kind regards,
Bryan.
| Carole & Andi Harrison 06/Aug/2005 |
Overall the trek was excellent - fantastic scenery, friendly and helpful staff
and well-paced itinerary. The first 12 days were as on our original
itinerary although on day 13 we turned off and headed back to Pelechuco for
a rest day. We then started on the second trek from Pelechuco to Curva,
following the route described in "Trekking in Bolivia" by Yossi Brain
except that we did the route in reverse (so we were walking away from the
sun which greatly improved the views). It was decided to do the second trek
in six days rather than the 'normal' five which made it much more enjoyable.
Best regards,
Carole & Andi Harrison

Jose,
... have been absolutely delighted to hear that the HK Cord Real trip proved
to be such a success. I have spoken to John Shipton and read his trip report
which is very complementary indeed – and I would like to congratulate
you and your team, most especially given the huge challenges you had on the
political front ! I tried ringing a couple of times to congratulate you personally
over the weekend – and did finally speak to Javier this evening and particularly
asked that he send you my thanks ... Anyway it was a great success and I am
really pleased for you and Andean Summits.
...
I am so envious – I wish I was coming on all these trips.
Felicidades

Dear all,
two week are gone since I landed home, and I have to admit how many times several
amazing images from you are still emerging in my mind. And I'm not referring
to the incredible landscape I saw only, but overall to all the people I met,
first to your staff. I'd never thought I could spend such beautiful days feeling
so right in despite of the severity of the land, the altitude, the dust and
the cold wind, the poverty of the ground and deserts. And besides, learning
so much from simple friendly talks, about your country, people, mountains...
That's to tell you how I appreciated your work during my trip, that made me
love Bolivia one time more, even if in the unliky days I was there.
On the aircraft leaving LaPaz, I could stare at Illimani group, keeping the
clouds away by its hard power; and I simply feel it was a "see you soon"
rather than a "goodbye"!
In particular, my best greatings to Javier, Jorge (mmm, la trucha de el Chai
Kota!!!!!!), Osvaldo, Josè, Pedro, and Ivan. Really hope the seaon will
be grat for you!
Write you soon,
hasta la vista!

Hola Javier

Hello Jose and Javier of Andean Summits,
I came across your superb website and thanks for the "honourable mention" re the Atlantis on the Altiplano.
I note the route for one of your adventures is very similar to my proposed "Atlantis Trail" past Llica and Tunapa to Quillacas except you do not call in at Pampa Aullagas which I think is the Atlantis site which needs more investigation!

Greetings Javier-Hola
So we are back in South Africa.
... may I thank you for one of the finest experiences of my life. From the moment you met us at the airport to the return , 3 weeks later, we had only the most impressive and friendly experiences. I particularly appreciated the wonderful insight into your country and its great culture that you were able to teach us. Your knowledge is magnificent and added so much more to our total mountaineering experience.
As the ex Chairman of the CT section of the Mountain Club of SA I think I have a good idea as to what one expects from your guides when in the Mountains. Both you, and Eduardo, could not have been better. You gave us great confidence, taught us, and added greatly to our skills and climbing on snow slopes. I found the higher mountains , sometimes, harder than expected. Yet I never felt beyond my capabilities as you and Eduardo always kept great control and, with your knowledge of the mountains took appropriate decisions. I particularly knew I was in excellent hands when I saw how you ,and Eduardo, took us over the ladder on Huyana Potosi and the summit attempt on Sajama.
So I know that I will definitely return to climb with you again and to visit
one of the great countries of the world -Bolivia. But before that we all expect
you to come and visit us in Cape Town. With your family and of course Eduardo. We
must return your magnificent hospitality. Please give my very best wishes to
Eduardo.
With warm regards Your friend

Hola Javier!
I'm sure the other guys will agree with me when I say that the three weeks we spent with you in Bolivia were outstanding - a wonderful experience for us all. As you said when we left - we began the trip as clients and ended it as friends. And as we said at Angelo Colonial - we were delighted by many things in Bolivia, but especially that we were so fortunate as to travel and climb with you and Andean Summits. Thankyou very much for making it such a great trip. We hope one day to repay your hospitality in South Africa. You and your family will always be welcome in Cape Town and we will do our best to make sure you have as memorable a trip in South Africa as we had in Bolivia.
Eduardo also will be very welcome. We could not have had a better companion and guide. Please give him our best wishes and tell him the girls in Cape Town are looking forward to meeting him....
You asked us for comments. I personally have only positive ones. There is nothing I would have wanted different - except more time in your lovely country, and perhaps the summit of Sajama! The organization, food and equipment were all excellent. We liked your flexibility. We loved Bolivia and the people we met. If we are lucky enough to do another similar trip in a year or two - well, we have bad news for you: we may come back!
I have had 80 slides scanned onto disc and will send the CD in the next few days, if you could just confirm your postal address. There is one nice picture of Eduardo and maybe you could make a print for him.
All best wishes to you and family and your colleagues at Andean Summits.

Hi Jose,
Just a short email to say thank you for your services and help during our time
in Bolivia. Thanks also to
Felix for helping me summit Pequeno Alpamayo.

Our supply of Manjar is starting to run low (I eat it with ice cream) so soon
we will have to make some in
the pressure cooker! But we are missing Saltenas, it is not possible to buy
them here, we will have to make
some!
Once again thanks for all your help, we really enjoyed the Apolobamba trek,
beautiful - and Louise has an
interesting Condor story to tell everybody! And the Mountaineering at Condoriri
was amazing - eating the
fresh trout from Los Pescadores de el Lago was nice.
Best Regards,

Javier,
Jan and I wanted to say thank you for your help during our recent trip to Bolivia. The trip into the Negruni Massif was espectacular, and meeting Praxides and his family helped to make it so . I don’t know why more climbers don’t go there. The mountains aren’t as high, but the entire valley is so beautiful. The climbing is interesting too, as interesting as a team cares to make it. When we return to Bolivia it will be a destination for us again I am sure. …
…..Again, Thanks for making our trip so enjoyable.

Hi Javier and Jose,
I’m back in the US now, but just wanted to say thanks for setting my friend Scott Grossman and I up on our tour of Bolivia and Peru these past three weeks. We really had a great time and things went very smoothly ….

Arlis worked tirelessly and prepared excellent meals, always with a smile on his face. They made the best of our windblown experience on H. Potosi.

…I really had a very good time on all the mountains, and thought you did an excellent job with logistics and safety. …
…I don’t think Elio is a very good guide. He spent a lot of time on Illimani making fun of me, ….
…In General I just don’t think Elio is very customer friendly, patient or considerate, and probablydoes not reflect the kind of image that Andean Summits wants to put forth. In contrast though, I thought all the other guides—Gonzalo, Marco Cabriles and of course Javier--- were absolutely excellent.
Thanks again for a great trip, and I hope my comments are helpful.

Dear Jose,
I understand from Michael Smith that you are sorting out logistics of the expedition that YRC is planning to make to Bolivia in June and July. I just wanted to drop you a note to wish Andean Summits every success, and to hope that the YRC expedition will go well. It's really good to hear of companies like yours who are working to make it possible for the remoter parts of the world to be exploerd by those who don't wish to follow the well-trodden trails in the Himalayas and Karakorum.
My workload seems to stay as heavy as ever, but I do hope that the time will come when I can visit your part of the world,
With warm good wishes,
Yours sincerely,

Just a note to let you know the trip was a success thanks to Andean Summits.
We had OK success in the Condoriri area. P. Alpamayo was in good (perhaps icy)
condition but was “muy Linda”…..
