MOUNTAINEERING  Expeditions
 Short Trips

Satellital view from South AmericaThe Andes mountain range, rising up from the Pacific coast of the American continent, is the longest (7,500km) and the youngest mountain range on the planet. After the Himalayas, it is the second highest range and still growing. Formed by the subduction of the Nazca plaque under the South American plaque, the Andes - a real backbone of the continent - is composed by techtonic snow capped peaks and many volcanoes.

Mountains are renowned for several reasons: some because of their height, others because of their beauty, others because of their difficulty or lack of, and also if the approach is relatively easy. Here in the Bolivian Andes, mountains are well known for all the reasons above. Bolivia is a real paradise for climbers, here you can still found remote areas where new peaks or routes are possible and no fees or special permits are required.

Differing from "Trekking Peaks", "Mountaineering Expeditions" require more experience and technical knowledge and, certainly, more endurance. Some of the routes involve long summit-days of glacier traversing, crevasse crossing or even steep ice climbing. Commercial Mountaineering is a serious activity and you should do it with a professional guide. After intensive training and courses finally a group of Bolivian mountain guides have been certified by the International Mountain Guides Association (IMGA, UIAGM, IVBV). We only work with those guides on our mountaineering trips. For more information about the guides please visit the following website www.agmtb.org

As is our tradition, our main goal is to guide you through the routes in the safest possible way. That is why all of our expeditions start with an initial acclimatization program, which is the key of success at high altitude.

NOTE: There are dozens if not hundreds of new agencies popping up everywhere in the country. As the climbers population arises, problems grow and more unattended complaints have been reported to the “Tourism Police”. While the prices spiral down and casualties grow in numbers, we have maintained our professional level of service since 1992. Unfortunately people do not realize that in this industry you really "get what you pay for". It is not worth to gamble with your safety by settling for the lowest price.

 EXPEDITIONS
Back

We chose this term not neccesarily regarding the technical difficulty but because of the length (2-3 weeks) of these trips and the complexity of its organization. Our expeditions have been designed to introduce you to the very heart of the region and provide you the most enriching lifetime experience you can get for your money, they are not just single or multiple day “tours” put together.

Some of our expeditions start and end at La Paz airport, and include all land services: accommodation, full-board-food (B&B in main cities), common equipment, and all the staff required. International and local flights are normally not included. Some expeditions are based on land services only and start in La Paz. We will pick you up from your hotel.

Expeditions already include an acclimatization program, the ones marked with * have a set departure date that you can find in our Calendar.
