Caquella volcano and Cañapa lagoon (J.Camarlinghi) It is said that the road net at the Incas time had more than 30,000km (18,633mi) of trails connecting the whole empire from Ecuador at the north through Bolivia and Peru, to Chile and Argentina at the south.

The main “highway” follows a north-south line parallel to the Pacific coast, connecting the main trails that traverse the Andes mountain range, linking different ecological environments from the Pacific Ocean through the highlands, to the fertile valleys of the upper Amazon. Despite the centuries without any kind of mainteniance , some of them still show their original pavement.

Surrealistic places really exist!. Not only in Salvador Daly paintings or Stanley Kubrick movies, they are in Bolivian deserts too. Imagine multicolored lakes: deep purple with yellow beaches, emerald green with black rocky cliffs, intense red and white Caribbean sandy flats; hundreds of metallic colored volcanoes surrounding the valleys, cobalt blue sky, and then an infinite white salt flats. There are more volcanoes per square kilometer in the southern Bolivian highlands than anywhere else above the surface of the planet, although disperse, a lot of them are concentrated in two areas at the east and west sides of this desert.

Despite the arid terrain and lack of water, the surrounding deserts have been cradle of several old, native cultures. On the shores, there are many ancient ruins and archaeological remains of the past. Today the most important ethnic groups living in the area are the Urus, the Uruquellas, the Llipi, the Chipayas, and the Aymaras.

These combined Overland & trekking expeditions, on any of its versions, will take you along the Royal Mountain Range (Cordillera Real), deep into the very Indian hearth of the Andes. The overland route has been designed to enjoy the most interesting attractions in the Bolivian highlands, avoiding the crowds and following the most logical route to link in the easiest and fastest way as possible the following destinations: Sajama National park, Coipasa & Uyuni salt flats, Colorada & Verde lagoons.

This year we have organized the itinerary in a way to give our costumers more possibilities and combinations. We have divided the trip on several options to give a wide variety of programs. We are offering "set dates programs" of 10, 12, 15 and 18 days.

Sajama National Park was the first protected area created in Bolivia, it hosts the highest Keñua tree forest in the planet, geysers, hot springs and spectacular views of the highest volcanoes in Bolivia.
