The 3-Layer Clothing Principle for Andean Adventures

Clothing

Weather in the Andes can shift quickly so we try to be prepared for diferent conditions. When walking or climbing the heat produced by your body should be preserved without sweating too much. The three-layer system helps balance warmth, breathability, and protection. Adjust as conditions change.

Examples

1️⃣ Base Layer – Liner for Moisture wicking

Keeps sweat off your skin. Use synthetic shirts, lightweight merino wool tops, or long thermal underwear. Gloves liners. Buffs.

2️⃣ Middle Layer – Insulation

Holds body heat. A fleece jacket, softshell, or lightweight down sweater.

3️⃣ Outer Layer – Shell / Waterproof

Blocks wind, rain, and snow. Choose a breathable hardshell or Goretex rain jacket with good ventilation.

It's important to invest time stoping to change layers as the weather changes, adjusting your layers as you move allows you staying balanced and enjoying more your hike.

Adventure awaits, together!
